My heart goes out to anyone who’s been impacted by the virus, either directly or indirectly. My thoughts are especially with those who are sick, to whom I extend a heartfelt wish for a full recovery. I am sending love to the healthcare workers, police officers, fire, paramedics and others around the world who are on the front lines working tirelessly to care for people in need.
Today I was supposed to be face painting at an Easter Egg Hunt. And the weather today is beautiful here in South Jersey. But all the events on my calendar have been canceled until further notice… I miss the connection both physical and emotional with my clients and the public! Our main focus is keeping our hands clean don’t touch your face don’t touch anything! But I am a face and body artist, I work with hands and faces I use to spend my weekends painting children’s faces giving big hugs after they see their face in the mirror. The connection holding children’s faces, holding hands as I decorate hands with henna. I miss the connection! I did not realize how much I use my hands at the food store I cannot hand the checkout divider to the next customer in line. I made some space for the customer behind me and I was about to take her oranges and lay them on the conveyor belt where I pushed my groceries over to make room for hers. However I stopped myself because that would mean I would touch her oranges. We use our hands to hug one another, we kiss sides of the face to say hello. I often give children a high five if they were able to stay still while I painted their face. I use my hands to create art on the body and face. With all this talk of the coronavirus there’s been a lot of emphasis placed on social distancing canceling everything staying home and not connecting with one another. And for many of us this makes us sad, anxious, confused, lonely isolated. As an artist I have a unique capability to help. The nature of what I do for a living is bring joy, celebration, smiles to your face. Instill hope and inspires connection and even though we have to keep our distance from one another. I started working on a craft project with my family to help us combat our isolation. I have chickens and I have lots of eggs. I have decided to share eggs with my neighbors and community. I decorate the egg cartoons with encouraging quotes. But I did not stop there to make this even more fun and silly, I will dress in chicken t-shirt my husband bought for me. While the chicken dance song is playing we deliver the eggs! Would that bring a smile to your face? Eggs this is something I am able to share in this uncertain time. To all my loyal clients
